Many brands of gourmet popcorn can be ordered in a popcorn tin. I don’t know exactly how this tradition got started, but I will say that The Popcorn Factory does a bang-up job with the design and selection of their tins.
In addition to the usual variety of holiday, birthday and thank you themed tins, The Popcorn Factory packs gourmet popcorn in tins that say “Peace, Love & Popcorn” (they appeal to my hippie days), and clever Suduko Puzzle Popcorn Tins. They have a sports team themed collection that would be great for Super Bowl parties. Best of all, all the popcorn tins can be personalized with a note or even a photo for only $4.99. Since The Popcorn Factory has popcorn gift tins that start at $19.99, paying a little extra to give your gift that special touch is easy.
The Popcorn Factory has been around a long time (since 1979), and is part of the massive gift conglomerate that includes 1-800 Flowers, Fannie Mae, and 1-800 Baskets. This may explain why The Buffalo Wine and Dine Dinner Club found that most of the flavored popcorn was less than exciting. Most were fairly standard flavors, very acceptable and enjoyable for everyone, but nothing really special. The kernels were larger than many other gourmet popcorn that we sampled, and the butter and cheese flavors were fresh tasting, avoiding the artificial taste that can often occur. However, one flavor was outstanding. The caramel popcorn was top pick for nearly everyone in the group. Big fluffy kernals wrapped in just enough flavor and crunch. A nearly perfect examples of an old traditional favorite.
The popcorn tins are cool, the price-point is great and the option of personalizing them makes The Popcorn Factory
worth considering. But we’d suggest you fill your tin with caramel popcorn or the sampler packs that includes the butter, cheese and caramel gourmet popcorn flavors.
