After tasting and blogging about gourmet popcorn gift tins, unpopped gourmet popcorn and I realized that I had left out one category of this stuff: Gourmet Microwave Popcorn.
There’s a good reason for this lapse. There’s not too many companies that have the audacity to claim that they make this stuff. I mean, Google ‘gourmet microwave popcorn’ and you’ll find plain old Orville Reddenbacher at the top of the list. Isn’t that an oxymoron?
Intrepid foodie that I am, I finally discovered Paradise Island, The World’s Finest Gourmet Microwave Popcorn. With so little competition, that sounded like an empty claim, but a few of the flavors did make me curious. Jamaican BBQ, Cinnamon Twist, All Natural Kettle Cake Popcorn. Aren’t you curious about what a kettle cake is? Some of the other flavors were just flat out weird sounding. Strawberry Fields, Mmmm Bacon, Pineapple Delight.
Being of strong stomach and hearty appetite for adventure, I ordered some of this stuff. I’d love to tell you it was good. Hell, I’d love to tell you it was bad. Unfortunately, I never received the order so I don’t know how it tastes! But our reviews are transparent, letting you know about good and bad products, as well as those vendors who have great or lousy customer service. This is one I can’t recommend.
Rural Route1 is the only other microwave popcorn company that heavily uses the word ‘gourmet’ in their advertising. I haven’t tried it, but the only flavors are butter, butter lite and kettle corn, so I’m not rushing to pull out my credit card.
