About Us
A gourmand is one whose chief pleasure is eating
A gourmet is a connoisseur of food and wines
Anything Goes Gourmet is a community for both
Anything Goes Gourmet was a gourmet food gift basket business founded by me, Jeanette Hauser, in 1993. The appeal of this business was remarkably selfish: My closets were overflowing with irresistible inventory and it was fun. In less than one year, the business was the 3rd largest gift basket business in the city. (I was larger, too, but that’s what happens when you raid the inventory.)
This venture led to some interesting and unexpected experiences. Jeanette, The Basket Lady, became a frequent guest on KNIX radio during the highest rated morning drive-time show in Phoenix. The local NBC-TV affiliate became a client and asked us to make gift baskets for Katie Couric and Al Roker. We made baskets to greet an entire convention of Salvation Army officers. One of the best weekends of my life was acting as a judge at the San Francisco Fancy Food Show which, to a foodie, might be better than sex since the show lasted three entire days.
Eventually, I sold the business and behaved like a responsible adult with real job. I’ve placated myself with vacations to exotic destinations that were selected almost entirely based on cuisine, gazing at the luscious photos in Gourmet Magazine like a teenage boy looks at Penthouse, and tracking down the best gourmet food, wine and kitchen gadgets on the internet.
Now it’s time to share my online food finds and fill my closets with those glorious goodies again. But I don’t have to feel guilty for sampling the inventory now I’ve joined a gym
